Mr. Oliver aka Ollie

Mr. Oliver

Long before Syd and Genny started chasing mysteries and getting themselves into trouble, Mr. Oliver had already collected enough stories for several lifetimes. In his younger years, Ollie traveled all over the world as a journalist, researcher, and occasional problem-solver for organizations that needed help in places most people had never even heard of.

He crossed deserts, sailed rough seas, explored forgotten ruins, and developed an uncanny ability to find himself in the middle of unusual situations, while somehow managing to walk away from them in one piece. Eventually, he traded constant travel for a quieter life. He built a successful consulting business and earned a reputation for being the person people could trust when things became complicated.

Calm under pressure, endlessly resourceful, and blessed with more patience than most people thought possible, Ollie became the obvious choice when the families of Syd and Genny needed someone to oversee the girls’ inheritance and help manage their future. What began as a professional responsibility slowly became something much more personal. Ollie watched the girls grow up. He answered their endless questions, encouraged their curiosity, taught them practical skills, and spent years trying … mostly unsuccessfully … to convince them that not every strange map, ancient legend, or mysterious rumor required immediate investigation.

The girls quickly discovered that Ollie seemed to know a little bit about everything. He could identify ancient artifacts, negotiate with stubborn officials, repair an engine, read a map without getting lost, navigate by the stars, and somehow locate a decent cup of coffee almost anywhere on Earth.

Despite all his complaints, Ollie secretly enjoys the girls’ adventures far more than he would ever admit. Whenever Syd and Genny come up with another impossible idea, he sighs heavily, mutters something about budgets and liability forms, and starts making phone calls. While the girls are planning the adventure, Ollie is arranging transportation, securing permits, contacting experts, and quietly making sure they have everything they need. When Syd and Genny inevitably find themselves in over their heads, Ollie is usually the first person they call. He is also the last person to stop worrying until they are safely home.

Officially, Mr. Oliver is the trustee of their fortune and manager of their affairs. Unofficially, he is the steady hand behind every adventure, the voice of reason no one listens to, and the safety net that somehow always appears when things go wrong. To Syd and Genny, Ollie is family. And though he would never say it out loud, the girls are the closest thing he has ever had to daughters.
