I’ve been thinking today about how easily we forget that life is not supposed to be perfectly organized.
We make lists. We make plans. We convince ourselves that if we can just get everything in the right place, everything will finally feel right.
And then, of course, life laughs.
Plans change. People surprise us. Coffee gets cold. Keys disappear into mysterious dimensions. And sometimes the thing we were so certain would make everything better turns out to be nothing more than another lesson wearing a clever disguise.
I suppose that’s the part we often miss.
Not everything that goes wrong is a disaster. Sometimes it is simply life asking us to slow down and look at things differently.
There is something rather comforting about remembering that we don’t have to have every answer today. We’re allowed to be uncertain. We’re allowed to change our minds. We’re allowed to have a bad day without deciding that we’re having a bad life.
So, if today feels a little messy, take a breath.
Put down the list for a moment. Drink the coffee while it’s still warm. Call someone who makes you laugh. Look out the window. Notice something beautiful that you might normally overlook.
And remember this:
You do not have to have everything figured out to be moving in the right direction.
Sometimes, simply taking the next step is enough.
And if you happen to lose your keys along the way…
Well, that’s what tomorrow is for.
